Pico Aneto 3404 m - the highest point in Spain (province of Aragon) and the entire Pyrenees mountain system.
Pico Aneto - the highest point of the Pyrenees and Spain
A simple and rather beautiful climb can be done to Pico Aneto during the entire summer and autumn season. Access to the summit in spring or winter is also possible, but the format of the ascent is changing - its complexity increases significantly in the conditions of snow cover and avalanche danger.
View of the Pyrenees from the top of Pico Aneto
The altitude of the Pico Aneto is 3404 m - which is within the zone of asymptomatic acclimatization, climbing to this altitude does not require any additional acclimatization. At the same time, climbing Aneto Peak combined by an overnight stay on the summit can be a good workout before climbing mountains of 4000+ meters in other mountain systems.
Lake Corona on the route to Aneto Peak from the south
There are many routes of the different difficulty levels the the summit of Aneto Peak, of which the two main routes are Portillon (NW) and Lake Corona (SE).
The first route starts from Plan de la Besutra (42.67755582969101, 0.6506807931596321)
The second route (I like it more regarding the ease of access by car from Barcelona), starts from Refugio de Coronas (42.61113690519646, 0.6196885305545324)
Summit of Pico Aneto
Both routes are nothing more than intense trekking, but share a common section at the top, which is the only technical difficulty of Pico Aneto routes.
After climbing the Mahoma pass, the section of the rocky ridge in front of the very top is a narrow rocky bridge (it is called Puente de Mahoma) consisting of a random heap of large granite blocks.
Technical section of the Aneto peak route
If the rocks are dry, climbing in this part of the route is quite easy, but the majority of the climbers uses organized belay and climbing gear. It is also advisable to use a helmet - in its absence, even a leg fracture can be recognized as a non-insured event.
At the summit of Pico Aneto
The length of the technical section of the Pico Aneto route is no more than 100 m. In addition, depending on the condition of the slope on the route part below the pass (whichever side you climb), crampons may be required in case of the dense snow.
Rocky section of the route below the summit of Pico Aneto
The altitude gain of the Pico Aneto route is 1400 m, at a moderate walking pace you can climb it in 5-6 hours. My personal speed record for climbing Pico Aneto via Corona Lake is 52 minutes, without equipment.
View of the summit of Pico Aneto from the air
Also, the route via Lake Korona can be divided into two days with an overnight stay in the middle of the route - that is an ideal option for lazy trekking with a tent and a romantic overnight stay on a beautiful lake. Along the shore of the emerald lake there are numerous equipped places for the tents.
Pass and Aneto Peak - rock mass on the right
When choosing the time for climbing of Pico Aneto, you need to keep in mind that the classic routes of Pico Aneto are very popular - during the season, especially on the weekends and holidays, you should be prepared for high traffic on the route.
Following traditions is a noble reason to do crazy things! I could not go down without my traditional summit handstand
The section of the route from the parking to the Lake Corona camping site can be done even with any kind of pets: cats, dogs, alcoholic friends, wives, and even small children.

Our Principles
AlexClimb Rule #1 - Safety First
From the very beginning of our activity, here nearly 16 years, the first Principle of work of School of mountaineering and rock-climbing of MCS AlexClimb is the Safety Priority. On the basis of this Principle all process of training is based, all programs and rounds are developed and carried out only within this main principle. We consider that at professional approach to development of programs, at personal discipline and correctly put motivation - occupations by mountaineering and rock-climbing are COMPLETELY safe. And from the return - all troubles and accidents in our sport come from nonprofessionalism, from ignorance or neglect by elementary standards of safety, from irrational motivation, from revaluation of own forces and opportunities. All these prerequisites we COMPLETELY EXCLUDE in our work - ours Rock-climbing, Ice climbing and Mountaineering are based on one Principle - the Safety Priority. In rock-climbing, mountaineering and ice climbing, the Priority of Safety of MCS AlexClimb-is your personal security and comfort irrespective of, than we are engaged - we train muscles and we work technology of the movement in the sports hall and on the rock climbing wall, we make the way through snowstorm to top or we relax on golden sand of the Caribbean beach after hot day of trainings on rocks. The Safety priority - the main credo of School of mountaineering and rock-climbing of MCS AlexClimb.
AlexClimb Rule #2 - Leave No Trace
Closely interacting with Nature, working with the active programs in mountains, woods, lakes and rivers, we perfectly understand the importance of carefull and respectfull bahavior towards the Nature, for its resources. From the very beginning of our outdoor-activity we adopted rules of Leave No Trace technique - the standard of behavior of the person accepted in all the civilized world in relation to environment and especially - to the wild nature. After all on the relation of people to the nature near which they exist, itself can draw dalekoidushchy conclusions on the relation of these people to... Where and as we didn't travel - we don't reserve any garbage, we try to reduce whenever possible our influence on environment to a minimum. We clear earlier zagryazyonny tourist parking of the left garbage, we take out and we take out to utilization places that to us other people left there. We consider that only thus, at personal individual consciousness of each citizen, each tourist, climber or autotraveller, we will be able to keep the nature surrounding us in its state, natural, suitable for life, - in it pledge of the healthy future for ourselves and our children.
