Climbing Ojos del Salado from Argentina – ascent of the world's highest volcano!
The world's highest volcano, Ojos del Salado, is located directly on the border of Chile and Argentina, 600 kilometers from South America's highest mountain, Aconcagua, in the province of Catamarca.
Ojos del Salado and the high-altitude puna – a lifeless desert
For a long time, the altitude of this mountain was the subject of heated debate among geographers from different countries.
Due to measurement errors, Ojos del Salado was considered to be more than 150 meters higher than Aconcagua. However, the dispute over the height of these two giants was finally resolved in 1963, after precise geodetic measurements were conducted.

Ojos del Salado retains its title as the second-highest peak in the Western Hemisphere and the highest active volcano in the world.
This volcano's location in close proximity to the high-altitude Atacama Desert determines the rather unique climate in the area around Ojos del Salado.

In particular, despite its considerable altitude, this mountain has virtually no permanent snow cover. Only during the rainy season Ojos del Salado summit gets covered in a light blanket of snow.
In addition to its uniquely dry climate for its altitude, Ojos del Salado has another interesting natural anomaly: a non-freezing lake is located in the crater of this volcano at an altitude of 6,390 meters—nothing like it exists anywhere else in the world at such an altitude.

Ojos del Salado is a popular climbing destination during the dry season (December - March). Climbing routes exist on both the Argentine and Chilean sides.
The difficulty of climbing Ojos del Salado is determined solely by its altitude. The climb presents no technical difficulties, with a well-equipped trail leading from the base to the summit—almost like Kilimanjaro!

The 12-day program "Climbing Ojos del Salado - the world's highest volcano" is available to participants with little or no mountaineering experience, but experience with lower-difficulty climbs (Mont Blanc, Elbrus, Kazbek) is recommended. It is important to have no medical contraindications to mountaineering.

Guided ascent of Ojos del Salado (6893 m)
Altitude mountain climbing, basic level
Day 1 - Flight from Buenos Aires to Rioja LRJ, hotel accommodation
Day 2 - 4x4 transfer Rioja - Fiambola - Cortaderas, 369 km, 4 hours, accommodation in comfortable hotel located at an altitude of 3,300 m
Day 3 - Acclimatization trip (4x4), ascent to the summit of Cerro Colorado (4,505 m) and Cerro Falso Maroccio (4,478 m), return to the hotel
Day 4 - Acclimatization trip on the Ojos del Salado trek (4x4 to the Quemadito campsite), trek to the El Chorro campsite at 3,800 m (11 km, 3 hours), setting up camp, rest
Day 5 - Ascent to the summit of Chango (4,625 m) (elevation gain 825 m), descent to the campsite El Chorro, rest, return to Cortaderas (4x4 transport from the Quemadito campsite)
Day 6 - Transfer to Fiambola with a visit to the local attraction "Indian Caves," night at the hotel. Afternoon - complete relaxation at the thermal springs.
Day 7 - Reserve day, rest
Day 8 - 4x4 transfer to Arenales Camp (5,500 m), overnight in tents
Day 9 - Summit attempt to Ojos del Salado (6,893 m), descent to Arenales Camp, overnight in tents

What you need to be prepared for:
- active program, a lot of moderate physical activity (hiking);
- carrying a 15-17 kg backpack;

In rock-climbing, mountaineering and ice climbing, the Priority of Safety of MCS AlexClimb-is your personal security and comfort irrespective of, than we are engaged - we train muscles and we work technology of the movement in the sports hall and on the rock climbing wall, we make the way through snowstorm to top or we relax on golden sand of the Caribbean beach after hot day of trainings on rocks. AlexClimb Rule #2 - Leave No Trace
Closely interacting with Nature, working with the active programs in mountains, woods, lakes and rivers, we perfectly understand the importance of carefull and respectfull bahavior towards the Nature, for its resources. From the very beginning of our outdoor-activity we adopted rules of Leave No Trace technique - the standard of behavior of the person accepted in all the civilized world in relation to environment and especially - to the wild nature. After all on the relation of people to the nature near which they exist, itself can draw dalekoidushchy conclusions on the relation of these people to... Where and as we didn't travel - we don't reserve any garbage, we try to reduce whenever possible our influence on environment to a minimum. We clear earlier zagryazyonny tourist parking of the left garbage, we take out and we take out to utilization places that to us other people left there. We consider that only thus, at personal individual consciousness of each citizen, each tourist, climber or autotraveller, we will be able to keep the nature surrounding us in its state, natural, suitable for life, - in it pledge of the healthy future for ourselves and our children.
