The Mount Kenya route goes through the jungle zone and the altitude mashes, climbing is possible by the three routes of different length. Besides the standard ascent of Point Lenana, also are possible the technically difficult climbs of another summits in the Mount Kenya massif - Nelion and Batian.

Mountain climbing in Kenya, the country of ivory and pink flamingo
Not big equatorial country in the central part of Africa. There is only one object on the territory of Kenya which is interesting in climbing aspect it is Mount Kenya, the highest mountain of the state. Apart of climbing Kenya tourist offer is quite various in aspect of National Parks, which allow to get acquainted with the nature and animal world of Africa. By the quantity of tourists and the infrastructure organization Kenya is not as popular as its close neighbor - Tanzania. But on the other hand it makes Kenya more attractive as more interesting and authentic in cultural aspects, not spoiled by mass tourism influence.
For the first time the existence of Mount Kenya became known in 1849. The missionary John Ludwig Krapf was the first European who described the summit, significantly raised above the surrounding landscape, which local people call Kirinyaga and honored as sacred dwelling place of the deity Ngai. But the missionary gave only common description of the mountain. The first documented ascent of Mount Kenya was committed by a group of English travelers under the leadership of Halford Mackinder fifty years later.
The top of Mount Kenya is located directly on the equator, 180 kilometers north of the capital of Kenya - Nairobi. Dead volcano, with altitude a little more than five kilometers, which erupted for the last time about three million years ago, Mount Kenya has three major peaks - Nelion, Batian and Point Lenana, with the greatest number of climbing is done to Point Lenana, due to its technical simplicity. Two other peaks are of interest for experienced climbers: there is a fairly complex routes.
Like most African volcanoes, Kenya at the bottom to the height of 3300-3500 meters is surrounded by a zone of tropical rainforest. The first reason for this - very fertile soil, rich products of ancient eruptions. Secondly, but not least - there is never a lack of water. The Summit of Mount Kenya, where the snow and glaciers are melting, run thousands of rivers, creeks and streams, and because of the constant conflict of warm air masses from the plain and cold from the Summit - every day condense and fall rain, many tons of water.
The Summit of Mount Kenya and the area of tropical forest that surrounds it, is a Kenyan National Park, national property of the Republic of Kenya and is protected by the state. Over the entrance to the National Park fee is charged, which is quite justified, considering the amount of labor invested in equipment of routes, tracks and trails without which in the rainforest or in the area of highland bogs it would be practically impossible not only to build huts and refuges but even to walk, make the routes pretty comfortable and affordable, maintaining cleanliness on the mountain. Unlike Kilimanjaro, for climbing Mount Kenya there is no need to take obligatory local guide or sleep only in the mountain huts - the absence of these rules makes climbing Mount Kenya more interesting and inexpensive - again compared to Kilimanjaro.
If Africa is not something from another universe for you - we will be glad to see you in our climbing team in Kenya!

AlexClimb Rule #2 - Leave No Trace
Closely interacting with Nature, working with the active programs in mountains, woods, lakes and rivers, we perfectly understand the importance of carefull and respectfull bahavior towards the Nature, for its resources. From the very beginning of our outdoor-activity we adopted rules of Leave No Trace technique - the standard of behavior of the person accepted in all the civilized world in relation to environment and especially - to the wild nature. After all on the relation of people to the nature near which they exist, itself can draw dalekoidushchy conclusions on the relation of these people to... Where and as we didn't travel - we don't reserve any garbage, we try to reduce whenever possible our influence on environment to a minimum. We clear earlier zagryazyonny tourist parking of the left garbage, we take out and we take out to utilization places that to us other people left there. We consider that only thus, at personal individual consciousness of each citizen, each tourist, climber or autotraveller, we will be able to keep the nature surrounding us in its state, natural, suitable for life, - in it pledge of the healthy future for ourselves and our children.
