Program Schedule
The MCS AlexClimb Iceclimbing Program schedule:
Iceclimbing Program: "Norway, Geilo - Hemsedal. MCS AlexClimb Norway iceclimbing program, season 2024"
Educational outdoor iceclimbing program
The version of the program proposed below contains additional options and is not the final schedule. Can only be considered as an example of the content of the Norway Iceclimbing Course program. The final version is agreed upon taking into account the wishes of the participants and the budget of the program.
Day 1 - International flight to Oslo, Norway. Transfer to Geilo (2.5 hours), accommodation at a camping (cottage for 8 people, with fireplace, shower and kitchen). Group meeting, detailed explanation of the program schedule, answers to questions. We prepare dinner ourselves in the kitchen of the cottage (as well as all subsequent days) - food preparation is organized in the form of pair duty and distributed among all participants in the program.
Day 2 - Iceclimbing training at the Golsjuvet cascades - safety briefing, training in basic techniques for climbing vertical ice using crampons and ice axes. The cascade is located 40 km from Geilo in the narrow picturesque canyon of the Hemse River. Many streams flow into the canyon, which in winter form a continuous curtain of ice. The ice massif of the cascade is safe for climbing, since all routes go along ice columns that have a solid base at the bottom. Climbing on hanging icicles and “daggers” is excluded. For most iceclimbing training days, this will be the main location. The cascade is very conveniently located relative to the parking lot - from the car to the beginning of the routes it is only a 7-minute walk. After returning to the base - a relaxing sauna and dinner - this part of the daily routine remains unchanged throughout the entire program.
Day 3 - Iceclimbing training at the Golsjuvet cascades - on this day we practice the skills acquired the day before and increase the volume of the climbing - during the training participants preform 8-10 ascents along vertical ice routes at least 25 meters high. Classes are held with a top rope belay organized by a guide.
Day 4 - Day of rest from iceclimbing - change of activity. On this day we will make a fascinating ski ascent to the highest peak in the vicinity of Geilo and the entire Buskerud district - Folarskardnuten with a height of 1933 meters and an altitude gain of 1000 meters. Ascent with skis does not present any particular technical difficulty; no skiing skills are required. All participants will be fully instructed and equipped with special ski equipment. The ascent takes place along a slope with a steepness of 10°-15°, the descent category is no more than a green route.
Day 5 - Excursion rest day (optional) - rest from physical activity. On this day we will visit the second largest city in Norway - Bergen, walk along the famous Bryggen embankment, and visit a fish restaurant right on the pier, where fishermen bring the freshest fish. An excursion to Bergen will take the entire day, the distance from Geilo to Begen is 250 km (4 hours one way), the road leads through the Hallingskarvet National Park and along the coast of picturesque fjords.
Day 6 - Iceclimbing training on the Hydnifossen cascade - the highest ice massif in the Buskerud district and one of the highest cascades in Norway. The height difference of the cascade is more than 550 meters, and the height of the vertical part of the cascade is 380 meters. Ice climbing training is organized at the bottom of the Hidnifossen cascade, and provides the opportunity to complete the first section of the route to this cascade. In the future, the most enthusiastic participants in the iceclimbing programs may be trained to a level that will allow them to complete this interesting ice route.
Day 7 - This day is completely dedicated to training on the vertical ice of the Golsjuvet cascade. Detailed attention is paid to climbing techniques and organization of belay; participants are offered a lecture on technical techniques for organizing belay points on ice using various climbing equipment. The volume of climbing on this day is 12-15 climbs along vertical routes.
Day 8 - We continue to increase our climbing volume and train again on the Golsjuvet cascade. The third day of climbing in a row is a very difficult test for the participants of the program - the fatigue grows and they have to use all the acquired technical iceclimbing skills in order to save energy for 10-12 ascents along the vertical routes of the cascade. We consolidate and improve iceclimbing techniques.
Day 9 - A full day of rest from sports. Program participants can spend this day as they wish - sleep until lunch, drink beer, walk around the town of Geilo and buy souvenirs, enjoy delicious food in a restaurant. The most active participants can go downhill or cross-country skiing.
Day 10 - Final day of ice climbing. On this day, we conduct a kind of exam - participants in the iceclimbing program are asked to independently ascend with a bottom rope to a small training cascade, using all the ice climbing and belaying skills acquired throughout our entire program. The total volume of climbing on this day is at least 10 ascents (250 meters). In the evening we hold a gala dinner to mark the end of the training event.
Day 11 - Goodbye Geilo and iceclimbing! Transfer to Oslo airport, return international flight

Our Principles
AlexClimb Rule #1 - Safety First
From the very beginning of our activity, here nearly 16 years, the first Principle of work of School of mountaineering and rock-climbing of MCS AlexClimb is the Safety Priority. On the basis of this Principle all process of training is based, all programs and rounds are developed and carried out only within this main principle. We consider that at professional approach to development of programs, at personal discipline and correctly put motivation - occupations by mountaineering and rock-climbing are COMPLETELY safe. And from the return - all troubles and accidents in our sport come from nonprofessionalism, from ignorance or neglect by elementary standards of safety, from irrational motivation, from revaluation of own forces and opportunities. All these prerequisites we COMPLETELY EXCLUDE in our work - ours Rock-climbing, Ice climbing and Mountaineering are based on one Principle - the Safety Priority. In rock-climbing, mountaineering and ice climbing, the Priority of Safety of MCS AlexClimb-is your personal security and comfort irrespective of, than we are engaged - we train muscles and we work technology of the movement in the sports hall and on the rock climbing wall, we make the way through snowstorm to top or we relax on golden sand of the Caribbean beach after hot day of trainings on rocks. The Safety priority - the main credo of School of mountaineering and rock-climbing of MCS AlexClimb.
AlexClimb Rule #2 - Leave No Trace
Closely interacting with Nature, working with the active programs in mountains, woods, lakes and rivers, we perfectly understand the importance of carefull and respectfull bahavior towards the Nature, for its resources. From the very beginning of our outdoor-activity we adopted rules of Leave No Trace technique - the standard of behavior of the person accepted in all the civilized world in relation to environment and especially - to the wild nature. After all on the relation of people to the nature near which they exist, itself can draw dalekoidushchy conclusions on the relation of these people to... Where and as we didn't travel - we don't reserve any garbage, we try to reduce whenever possible our influence on environment to a minimum. We clear earlier zagryazyonny tourist parking of the left garbage, we take out and we take out to utilization places that to us other people left there. We consider that only thus, at personal individual consciousness of each citizen, each tourist, climber or autotraveller, we will be able to keep the nature surrounding us in its state, natural, suitable for life, - in it pledge of the healthy future for ourselves and our children.
